RiverArts Gallery was filled with blooms and fashions for the third annual Art in Bloom. The annual fundraiser reception, benefiting RiverArts and Community Mediation Upper Shore was held on Sunday, June 14 and featured the works of eleven (11) local floral artists. A crowd gathered to view the beautiful creations and vote on their favorites.
Voting for the “People’s Choice” award was very close. Sydney Brookes took third place. Second place was a three-way tie between Lisa and Don Biggar of Galena Blooms Farm, Frank Creegan, and Denis Hager. First place went to Diane Blake for a design created from willow branches, hosta leaves and hydrangea. Blake is a trained watercolor painter, fine art color photographer and is a member of RiverArts. She grew up on the Eastern Shore, and after many years away, has recently relocated to Queen Anne, MD where she shares a home studio with her husband Ed Blake.
On Monday, June 15 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Art in Bloom featured a fashion show sponsored by Dockside Emporium, Mimi’s Closet and Houck’s Menswear. From work to play and casual to formal, there were fashions for everyone on display. Guests sipped champagne from Crow Farms while being dazzled by the best in local fashion.
Art in Bloom is a fundraiser to benefit the Community Mediation Upper Shore, whose mission is to provide accessible conflict resolution services through mediation, education, and training for the folks of Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Cecil Counties. It also benefits RiverArts, a member-supported, non-profit organization dedicated to engaging our community in the creation, appreciation, and support of the arts.
