Attorney Alex Rasin became the 4th candidate to participate in The Chestertown Spy/WCTR’s Election Profile 2010. While Chestertown Spy’s Dave Wheelan was unable to participate, given an unplanned trip to a hospital in Virginia (non-serious as it turns out), WCTR’s Keith Thompson interviewed Mr. Rasin and his motivation in seeking to return to the office of Kent County Commissioner, where he had previously served Kent County Commissioner, 1982 – 90 and 2006. Rasin, a native of Kent County, outlined his concerns about the County’s long term debt and its ability to sustain annual costs at a time of recession.

One thing that concerns me is to hear that, on principle, Mr Rasin is opposed to stimulus funding; however, he’s “not above” taking the money. This is having your cake and eating it too. Also, it’s more government bailing out government, and Spy contributors know my feelings on that.
Keith Thompson says
Troup, I see that as a pragmatic position. It’s perfectly principled to be opposed to stimulus money but a commissioner’s job is to serve the people of the county. If the stimulus money is being offered, a commissioner shouldn’t be so principled not to go after the money if it will only wind up going somewhere else.
Troup says
Keith – I see your point. From a political standpoint, it would be hard for him to look people in the eye and say he declined an opportunity.

Mr. Rasin,
do you have anything positive or definitive to say? i absolutely respect your position of the difficulty of the county’s situation, but your attitude, though certainly realistic, is hardly inspiring.
I want to vote for your experience, but find your lack of real ideas or positions troubling. can you give me anything, anything to make me believe that you will leave the county the better for your office this time around?
you may be a kent countian through and through, but you hardly give the impression that anyone would want to relocate there based on your descriptions and attitudes. is there no hope?, no bright idea? you say that why would any business (light, green industrial) want to relocate there, when we are competing with so many other counties. i contend it is just your job sir, to find that reason and promote it.
i applaud your years of service to the community and certainly differ to your experience, but as a young adult, who wants to believe in the area, i want you, as commissioner to guide that belief. can you?
