Even with an HD video camera, it’s hard to prove that Chestertown’s Mayor, Chris Cerino, has more grey hair now than he did when he took office a year ago, but it would be an easy guess.
The job of running a small town, with a publically-owned river marina needing repair and a significant liberal arts college wanting to expand its campus, would be a daunting task for a full-time mayor, let alone one this is basically a volunteer position with a salary of $6,000 a year.
And yet, despite the stress of being mayor, a full-time parent, and his real job at the Sultana Education Foundation, Cerino looks back at his first year in office, in the first of two interviews with the Spy, with a surprising level satisfaction and optimism.
The mayor also talks candidly about the funding challenges connected to the town marina and Chestertown’s relationship with Washington College and their plans for growth as outlined by WC’s acting president Jay Griswold letter to the town last month.

I am very glad that Chris Cereno won the election because he has done a fabulous job. He makes sense and clearly works hard. Bravo.
