There are still some tickets remaining for the first dinner lecture sponsored by the Friends of Kent County Maryland War of 1812 at the Kitty Knight House, leading up to the anniversary of the burning of Georgetown.
The dinner is set for March 3, with cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. in the main dining room of the Kitty Knight House, located at 14028 Augustine Herman Highway.
The main course of the five-course dinner will be herb salmon (with chicken substitute available upon request).
After dinner guests will be treated with a talk, titled “War on the Chesapeake,” by Scott Sheads, renowned War of 1812 historian and author.
The dinner will be $100 each or $175 a couple. For information on reservations, go online to https://kentcounty1812.org/1812-dinner-lecture-series/.
A portion of the proceeds will support the efforts of the not-for-profit Friends of Kent County Maryland War of 1812, which is sponsoring activities associated with the War of 1812 bicentennial.
British soldiers raided towns and villages along the bay in 1813 in an effort to discourage the locals from supporting the militia. On May 6 that year they burned most of Georgetown, but Catharine “Kitty” Knight persuaded the British commander to spare two houses.
